I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Yanglyn across countless projects, and her design work is truly impeccable. She thinks deeply about the entire experience, including the organization, functionality, end user, business goals, and the person or company the work is ultimately representing.
Every assignment is thoughtfully considered from the big picture down to the smallest detail. She doesn’t rely on a template or copy what has been done before. She understands structure and best practices, but uses them as a foundation for creating work that feels intentional, distinctive, and completely custom to the client. She has a unique ability to take what a client says they want, interpret the nuances of what they actually need, and translate that into something better than they may have envisioned themselves.
Yanglyn also brings a genuine curiosity to everything she takes on. She always seeks to understand the client, their business, their audience, and the context behind the work. That depth of understanding shows in the final product. She thinks about questions that go beyond aesthetics. Is this easy to use? Is it easy to understand? Does it guide the user where they need to go? Does it communicate the right message? Will it continue to work as the business grows?
One of the best ways I can describe her approach is that she’s like a professional organizer, but for design and information. She can take something messy, complicated, or disorganized and determine exactly what belongs where, how it should function, and how to make it intuitive and visually cohesive. She doesn’t just solve the problem in front of her. She thinks ahead about what the client will need next.
Working with Yanglyn is equally impressive. She is very intelligent, with a depth of knowledge and experience that makes her incredibly quick and capable. She stays current with industry developments and best practices, and she approaches every project with professionalism.
She is also an excellent communicator. She can explain a complex design or technical concept in straightforward, accessible language, or dive into the technical details when needed. Her recommendations are never arbitrary. She can clearly articulate the reasoning, strategy, and potential impact behind her decisions. And when something won’t work, she doesn’t just say no. She explains why and finds an alternative path that still achieves the underlying goal.
As a colleague and manager, she is remarkable. She is deeply protective of her team’s time and workload, while also being sincerely supportive when someone needs guidance, perspective, or course correction. She is a strong advocate for process, organization, and efficiency, but never loses sight of the people behind the work.
Her standards are exceptionally high, and she consistently delivers work that reflects them. I’ve worked with a lot of talented people throughout my career, and Yanglyn’s combination of creative expertise, strategic thinking, communication skills, curiosity, and true investment in doing the best possible work is rare.
